#ARWeek. Google killed its own AR glasses, but surprises seem to be coming... After announcements of new headsets from Meta and Apple, the Google team canceled plans for the next-generation XR device Project Iris. This is reported by The Verge. A little earlier, the company had already stopped selling Glass Enterprise Edition 2 smart glasses. Does this mean that the makers of the first AR glasses have pulled out of the competitive race at a most interesting time? Rumor has it that after massive layoffs and the departure of the head of AR/VR, Google has decided to focus on developing an operating system for third-party devices. Conventionally, the platform will be called Android XR for headsets and Android micro XR for glasses. However, experts believe that the headset based on the developments of Project Iris will still appear. Back in February, Google, Samsung and Qualcomm made an extremely vague statement about the beginning of cooperation on a new mixed reality platform. And it is very possible that soon we should expect the release of Samsung Galaxy AR-glasses with Qualcomm's Snapdragon XR chipset and functionality worked out by Google for ten years of experiments with AR glasses. And what is especially interesting for us, Samsung promises to create an open ecosystem with simple tools to easily adapt third-party products. So we wait and see!
